An update from the SSAA (NSW) Port Macquarie

Branch Update – August / September 2025

Post a busy mandatory participation attendance period, things have settled back into routine at the Range. We’re back to our regular schedule: practice each Friday, the first two Saturdays of the month, the third Sunday, and competitions on the fourth Sunday.

Home School Sport Shooting

Every Friday afternoon we run our Home School Sport Shooting program, with around 12 young participants. About half of these juniors hold Minors Permits and are already proving themselves in local competitions.

A special congratulations goes to Jacob, who has topped the last two term high scores. Recently, Jacob and his Dad travelled to Wodonga for the National Junior Challenge – his first major event. Jacob came away with third place in U15 and Overall, collecting several medals. Our Branch was proud to sponsor him, and we couldn’t be more pleased with his success.

Recent Projects and Events

We’ve also been busy improving facilities and planning ahead:

  • 100m Range: Eyebrows have been raised (with Range Inspector approval), making it possible to safely shoot standing and with post.
  • SSAA Mobile Air Rifle Range (MARR) event: Unfortunately, the planned session at the Wauchope 4WD & Caravan Show was a washout. President Barry is now working with SSAA Board Member Allison Worldon to organise a Try Shooting event at Port Macquarie Range in October – more details soon.
  • WiFi Upgrade: A grant application has been submitted to improve internet access, thanks to guidance from the SSAA Zoom Grant information session and SSAA NSW’s support.
  • Meeting Room Roof: After storm damage earlier this year, our meeting room now has a brand-new roof, with assistance from SSAA Insurance Brokers.

Thank You

A big thank you to President Barry and our Committee for leading these initiatives and keeping our Branch strong.

Dennis, Branch Secretary
