SSAA Griffith: Rimfire & Sporting Clays Ranges

Riverina
Griffith Clays 1SSAA Griffith operates a Shotgun range and a 100m Rimfire Range within the Dave Wallace Range complex at Simms Rd., Beelbangera, 10 kms from Griffith.

Sporting Clays

The Sporting Clays Range is situated in bushland at the top of a hill and is surrounded by steep cliffs on one side. This makes it rather unique for a sporting clays range as not only does it provide a setting for many different simulated field targets, but targets can be set to be thrown down, up or along the cliffs presenting special challenges to shooters. To provide even more variety for target presentation the range has two large ex-railway overhead foot bridges from which competitors can shoot or on which traps can be positioned to provide a wide range of overhead targets. The range also has a covered 5-Stand shelter, equipped with overhead floodlights that are used for night time shooting.

Griffith Clays 3

Regular Sporting Clays or 5-Stand shoots are held on 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. SSAA Griffith hosts regularly 5-Stand and Sporting Clays State Titles and is often the venue for National Championships. The range has a large clubhouse and septic toilets with hot showers for visitors who wish to camp on the range. SSAA Griffith is an approved club for Category C shotguns for clay target shooting.

Rimfire

Griffith Rimfire RangeThe 100m Rimfire Range features a large shooting shelter with 10 benchrest tables. The range is approved for all rimfire rifles and air rifles to .22 calibre only and is fully baffled to limit the range danger area. Popular matches held at the range are Benchrest, BR30, Metallic Silhouette and Cowboy Metallic Silhouette as well as General Shooting for members to sight in rifles, try different types of ammunition or for hunting practice. Shoots are generally held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. All Juniors shoot for free at the Rimfire Range.

Shoot programs for the shotgun and rimfire ranges are published on the SSAA Griffith Facebook page. These contain current information about shoots and activities.

Firearms Safety Awareness Training workshops are conducted to enable persons wishing to apply for a Firearms Licence while workshops to obtain an R Licence for hunting are offered. Contact the Branch person listed on the Shoot Program if interested.

Have you arranged your 2020-2022 attendances?

Many competitions have resumed and ranges have implemented COVID-19 safety plans so that all may safely attend and participate in their sport.

There is currently a 12-month extension to the attendances reporting period for 2020-2021 (now 2020-2022), allowing for one year’s participation across two years, while the COVID-19 health orders remain in place.
