Our SSAA NSW CEO Pete Szaak spent this week at Parliament House in a series of one-on-one meetings with The Hon. Rod Roberts MLC, Mr Gurmesh Singh MP, The Hon. Scott Barrett MLC and The Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC. Our sincere thanks to all these parliamentarians for their time and their willingness to listen to our concerns about the new firearms laws and the compulsory buyback.
These were not brief corridor conversations. Each parliamentarian set aside time to understand what the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Act and the compulsory buyback mean for our competitive shooters, our hunters, our farmers and primary producers, our clubs and our licensed dealers. Each expressed strong opposition to the new gun laws and gun buyback during our discussions.
This work has been ongoing since the bill was first introduced in Parliament, alongside our work with all other stakeholder groups, and will be ongoing leading up to the 2027 election (and/or as long as it takes to get this right).
Be assured we will keep advocating, and we will keep you informed.
Stay safe and thank you for supporting the collective advocacy effort.
