Become a member of an approved club or association

Before applying, you must have a genuine reason for owning and using a firearm. The easiest way to do this is by becoming a member of an approved organisation such as SSAA NSW.

Complete your SSAA NSW firearms safety training (FST)

Prior to applying for a firearms licence you will need to complete an approved SSAA NSW Safe Shooting Course (Longarms) through an SSAA NSW branch or affiliate club.

After successfully completing the FST course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment – which is a mandatory entry level requirement to the NSW firearms licencing scheme.
