Griffith: Rankins Springs

SSAA Branches

SSAA Griffith: Rankins Springs Target Shooting Complex is located 1km outside the small village of Rankins Springs on the Rankins Springs Rd (to Lake Cargelligo). Turn at the road displaying a large golf ball. Follow the track through two sets of gates. Please close the first gate after entering.

The 600m range has a covered shelter with six shooting benches and is set up for a variety of matches including Benchrest, Lever Action, Fly, Military Rifle,  Metallic Silhouette (Centrefire & Pistol Calibre), Single Action and Big Game Rifle. Griffith Pistol Club conducts monthly Field Pistol matches there. Please refer to the current shooting program on the SSAA Griffith Facebook page for when these matches are being held.

The NSW Firearms Registry has approved the range for the NATO template limiting the use of jacketed centrefire ammunition to 8mm calibre, with larger calibres restricted to lead projectiles. For Big Game Rifle matches the range is approved for rifles with a maximum calibre not exceeding 14.65mm (.577) and with a maximum muzzle energy not exceeding 5600 ft/lbs. (7593 J)

Griffith Rankins Springs Range

The Black Powder Cartridge Rifle and Big Game Rifle State Titles and National Lever Action Championships have been staged successfully at the range.

The range is used regularly by the NPWS and other agencies during weekdays for training and accreditation purposes.

Facilities

A clubhouse and containers are used to support a roofed area containing a gas BBQ and a selection of tables and chairs that are used for Saturday night communal dinners. There is a water tank which contains water suitable for cleaning purposes only

Multiple camping sites are situated around the grounds. Firewood can be collected from the fence lines. Fires are allowed, but cannot be left unattended. Fire restrictions are to be observed.

The range has a covered shooting platform with typical SSAA shooting chairs and tables. We use this facility as a base throughout the event and conduct our shooting events on shooting mats at the front of the cover.

There is no on-site electricity. The facility has excellent phone reception.

The General Store closes at 5pm on Friday and does not trade on the weekend. Ensure you have your necessary supplies with you if you arrive outside this time. Hot showers/flush toilets/Rooms are available at Rankins Springs Hotel (02) 6966 1287. Showers are $2.00 or if you have a couple in the public bar. Further accommodation Rankins Springs Motel (02) 6966 1183 or Rankins Springs Caravan Park, (02) 6965 1900.  

Bring

Shelter, sleeping materials, water, food, cooking implements, a light, chair, ice, refreshing drinks, firearm, ammunition, It is easy to camp badly, be cold, uncomfortable, hungry or eat poorly. Some simple preparations can see you sleep well, remain warm and eating fine flavoursome food with friends. Please bring along a good sense of humour, willingness to muck in, an open mind and a degree of mischievous derring-do! Adventurous hats are extremely welcome!
