SSAA Armidale: Woodlawn

Northern Tablelands

The Armidale Branch Inc. of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) is situated on the Northern Tablelands, halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. The Branch was established in 1992 and has continued to grow since then. Currently we have 303 members.  We have an active, hardworking Executive who strive to provide quality range facilities that cater for many disciplines for branch members.

Like most Branches, volunteers are our mainstay and we are fortunate to have a strong group of volunteers who keep the disciplines running successfully.

The Branch strongly supports women and juniors into our sport and have hosted three successful “Try Shooting Days for Women and Juniors” in previous years.

Shooting is conducted at our Woodlawn Range, on the 1st Sunday of each month and 3rd Sunday Bi-monthly. Service Rifle, Practical and Field Rifle Disciplines commence at 9.00am on 300m Range, Benchrest from 9 am on 200 yd range, Rifle Silhouette 9am to 1pm/ Pistol Silhouette from 1 pm on 500m Range. The Single Action range opens at 10am.

While Armidale SSAA is a small branch, some members have been successful at Away shoots.  Benchrest and Single Action shooters have travelled regularly over the years and have been fortunate in bringing home awards.  One of the Benchrest lady shooters has competed as an Australian Team member shooting overseas on several occasions and shot very well.

In 2012 the State (NSW) purchased a large property northwest of Armidale to build a new range and our branch is in the process of working with SSAA (NSW) to get this range up and running.

COVID-19

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions only Armidale Branch members are permitted to attend. This will change with the easing of the restrictions currently in place. We look forward to getting back into regular competitions and hosting visitors to the range.

Once the COVID-19 restrictions are removed members/visitors who wish to attend should bring their own lunch, drinks, eye & ear protection, sunscreen and wear covered footwear. Toilet facilities available. The cost for the day is $10.00, payable to the Range Officer on registration.

Any visitor interested in attending our Range (once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted) would be most welcome. Should you require more information or directions to the Woodlawn Range please contact our President, Grahame Walsh on 0411 445 897.

Have you arranged your 2020-2022 attendances?

Many competitions have resumed and ranges have implemented COVID-19 safety plans so that all may safely attend and participate in their sport.

There is currently a 12-month extension to the attendances reporting period for 2020-2021 (now 2020-2022), allowing for one year’s participation across two years, while the COVID-19 health orders remain in place.
