The mandatory participation requirements is a critical compliance matter for licensed shooters, and it is imperative to ensure activities are kept up to date. If you are unsure of your current status or what’s required, please contact your SSAA NSW branch or the office on 02 7900 1555.
Here are three steps to follow to make sure you meet your mandatory participation requirements within a reporting period:

Step 1: Check your membership
Make sure the “Membership Activities” on your SSAA Membership Card match the Genuine Reasons listed on the back of your NSW Firearms Licence.
Your membership “activities” (found on the bottom right hand side of your SSAA Membership Card) should be an accurate reflection of your NSW Firearms Licence. genuine reasons (found on the back of your Firearms Licence card).
Need to update your activities? Email membership@ssaa.org.au with your full name, membership number, and the changes required.
Step 2: Record your attendances
Your attendances help satisfy your licence obligations.
Here’s how to make sure they count:
- Using SSAA NSW Attendance Books or Electronic Sign-In Systems?
No action needed — these are automatically submitted by your Club or Branch. - Attending at non SSAA Ranges?
Email a copy of your attendance pass/receipt with your membership number to attendances@nsw.ssaa.org.au and we’ll record it for you.

Need to attend a Collector Meeting?
Contact your SSAA NSW Branch or the SSAA NSW office at 02 7900 1555 to confirm and attend a valid in person or online collector meeting.

Step 3: Know your minimum requirements
Depending on your Genuine Reasons, the following minimum attendances must be completed each reporting period:
- Target Shooting (longarms only)
- 4 attendances
- Collecting
- 1 collectors meeting
- Recreational Hunting/Vermin Control
- 2 hunting events or approved range visits (if club membership is the sole reason for which the licensee has established the genuine reason of recreational hunting/vermin control.
